My trip to the Long Island Game Farm by Eva C.
Yesterday, I went to the Long Island Game Farm Wildlife Park & Children’s Zoo in Manorville with my parents and brother. There, Gabe had a scheduled appointment with the capybaras. We fed the animals and pet them. Specifically, we fed the wallabies bread. There was also a nursery that we went to. At the nursery, we fed the baby goats (kids) milk. Then, we fed the capybaras lettuce. After the Long Island Game Farm, we went to a restaurant. We were supposed to go to Buttermilk’s Farmhouse in Patchogue, but there was a long line and we had nowhere to sit. So, we went to the Cheesecake Factory at the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove and got lunch/dinner items, followed by Barnes and Noble in the same mall. Finally, we went home.
Las Vegas Trip Report by Joseph L.
During the week of December 28, 2025, I headed out on a family trip to Las Vegas to see my grandfather Ivan, who resides in a house on the Los Prados housing complex there. This is the first time that I had visited the city with my family since the death of his wife and my grandmother Marcia in late August 2023.
A lot of things have changed to both the house and the surrounding community since my last visit to the city in January 2024. The most obvious change happened to my grandfather’s house, which received a complete interior renovation with updated kitchen appliances, white painted walls, and a new eco friendly wood flooring system. Outside of the house, he received a Mazda convertible to replace the handicapped accessible van he used to transport my grandmother throughout most of her final two decades of her life. In the context of the community, the Mirage casino, which had opened in 1989, was closed for reconstruction and expansion in July 2024; the Hard Rock casino, complete with the new guitar-shaped hotel tower, is expected to open on the site of the Mirage in late 2027.
The trip got off to an inauspicious start when we had to change our flight ticket to avoid a snowstorm that affected the New York area on December 26. Due to the storm and mild illness in the family, we would fly out on the morning of December 28 instead of the evening of December 27 as planned. During the flight, our family experienced one of the most turbulent climbs on a normal revenue flight as it had to avoid another snowstorm that was affecting Minnesota, which is where my younger sister Anna was attending college. The flight became less bumpy after that climb and would eventually land in Las Vegas as planned.
For the first two nights of the trip we were treated to several dinners (at the South Point casino on Sunday and at his partner’s house on Monday) that would involve my grandpa celebrating his birthday. While my mother booked a room at Bellagio for the first four nights of the trip, my father and I decided to stay at my grandfather’s house for the first two nights so that we could visit Valley of Fire State Park on Tuesday. I would stay at the Bellagio on Tuesday and Wednesday, the latter of which was New Year’s Eve. On that day, Las Vegas set a daily rainfall record of 0.32 inches, bringing its total rainfall for 2025 to over 5.25 inches, which is about one inch above the area’s average yearly rainfall of 4 inches.
On a cloudy New Year’s Eve we had another family brunch. Although rain was in the forecast, the weather was dry during daytime hours, but as I was playing blackjack with my father at the Park MGM casino later that day, the rain started; it would continue to rain heavily in the hours leading up to midnight. As I looked out from the hotel room, I saw fireworks being launched from the Caesars Palace at the stroke of midnight Pacific Time to mark the start of 2026. Since I was able to watch the Times Square ball drop live on my phone three hours earlier while I was walking around the Aria casino, I got to celebrate the new year twice in one day.
On Thursday, we checked out from Bellagio and went into the W hotel next to Mandalay Bay, which marked my first visit to Mandalay Bay as a hotel guest and my second visit since the October 2017 tragedy at the resort. In between we had a breakfast buffet at Bellagio that caused me to become too full to eat anything that day. The following day was highlighted by a visit to the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, where my grandmother’s grave is located. Along with Panaca, Boulder City is one of the two main towns in the state of Nevada that de jure prohibit any form of gambling.
After an additional dinner with my grandfather on Friday night, I learned to play the craps game at the Excalibur casino with my father following an additional game of blackjack there. I would spend one more night at the W hotel before checking out on the morning of January 4. I would have one last dinner with my grandfather later that night before staying at his house for the final night of the trip; the flight coming back would take place in the late afternoon of January 5.
While there were some times that I felt stressed during this trip, I had a wonderful time visiting my grandfather in Las Vegas with my family. Although I do gamble when I am in Las Vegas, I do so conservatively; I have a stronger preference for blackjack and craps than slots or video poker machines, and I also tend to avoid slots as much as possible even if my mother drags me to one.
So with that being said, we wish everyone the best to come in 2026.

Andy Anasa's Fall trip to Disneyland's 70th anniversary
On Saturday October 11th, my family flew from New York to Los Angeles to take our annual Disneyland trip for the 70th anniversary of the park and their Halloween party Oogie Boogie Bash. Oogie Boogie is based on a character from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. Anyway, back to my trip. Our first day after we landed, we went to Downtown Disney and we had Clarabel Cow's Halloween dinner at our hotel, Disney's Grand Californian Resort. We met Donald, Daisy, Clarabel, our hostess, and of course, the man himself, my favorite Disney character of all time, Goofy! Donald's outfit kind of reminded me of his suit suit in Disney's The Prince and the Pauper. At the buffet, I chowed down a pretty mean feast of comforting mac and cheese, and a delicious glazed pork belly that could not be beat. I also had to chase my food down with a crisp Diet Coke, and for dessert, I tried a mini apple pie cheesecake, and the pumpkin bread pudding was very warm and the spices from the bread pudding paired so well with the sweetened condensed milk sauce and creamy ice cream. After dinner, we went to bed. The next day, which was Sunday, we went to Disneyland's Magic Kingdom! The first ride we did was Star Tours in Tomorrowland, followed by It's A Small World in Fantasyland, Pirates of the Caribbean In New Orleans Square, and Indiana Jones in Adventureland. In Tomorrowland, I had a jalapeno cream cheese pretzel which was pretty good along with a hot and crispy churro. Churros in Disneyland are kinda better than the ones in WDW. After the long day of rides, we went to Blue Bayou restaurant next to Pirates of the Caribbean for dinner which was mediocre at its finest. But at 10:30 PM, we saw the Paint the Night Parade! On Monday, Adam and I explored the Anaheim area, we went to a die cast toy car store which also sold cleaning supplies or clean your actual automobile wich reminded me of something from Grand Theft Auto, a Superhero/collectible store, and we ate dinner at our hotel Disney's Grand Californian Resort. On Tuesday, we went to Disney's California Adventure park. I went to Avengers Campus, rode the Spider Man Web Slingers ride and in Pixar Pier we did Toy Story Mania! That night was the Oogie Boogie Bash parade! Mickey and Minnie started off the party with a bang when they walked down ''Hollywood Blvd.'' We met pretty cool characters to fit the chilly spooky night like Agatha Harkness from Marvel's Wanda Vision, Dr. Heinz Doofenshrintz from Phineas and Ferb, and of course the man himself, our host, Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas. However, from a distance, we did see Mickey and Goofy in their outfits from the popular Disney video game Kingdom Hearts. Wednesday, we went back to Disneyland park in which I rode, The Haunted Mansion Nightmare Before Xmas overlay, Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters, The Santa Fe and Disneyland Railroad, he had the Fred Gurley train which is a 2-4-4T steam powered engine that took us on that ''Grand Circle Tour'' of the Magic Kingdom. In addition, we also rode on Space Mountain which unfortunately I did not enjoy. I also rode on Pinocchio's Daring Journey, Snow White's Scary Adventure, and Mr. Toads Wild Ride. That night for dinner, Adam and I had tried the Mexican grab and go place and brought it back to our hotel. The burrito was tasty but there were too many beans! I forgot to mention that on that same morning, I went over to the Disneyland Hotel to have breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen which was amazing. Goofy and the gang were dressed in their Halloween best. I ate four Mickey waffles, a little bacon, some breakfast pizza, some chicken fingers, you heard me chicken fingers for breakfast! I also chased my food down with apple juice and a cold brew coffee. On our last day, we went to Disney's California Adventure and we rode the Pixar Pal Around Ferris wheel, Radiator Springs Racers in Cars Land, and Luigi's Jamboree. I also rode Soarin over California which was incredibly led by Patrick Warburton, who plays Joe Swanson on Family Guy. Unfortunately, Friday we left LAX back to land back at JFK which was a rough turbulence flight. But did I let that ruin my travels? Absolutely not. This was truly one of the best trips to a Disney Park I have ever experienced in my life. The characters and decorations were so beautifully presented around the two theme parks and Downtown Disney. The Grand Californian Hotel was one heck of a hotel as well! There was even a piano player playing classic Disney carols such as Part of your World from The Little Mermaid, A Spoonful of Sugar from Mary Poppins, Winnie the Pooh's song, and I requested to play Everybody wants to be a Cat from the Aristocats. This one Disneyland Vacation I will never forget! Stay tuned for my trip to Walt Disney World with my baby cousin, Pretty Little Penny!

The Church Picnic by Andy Anasa
This weekend, my family and I volunteered at our church picnic to get rid of some junk in my house. I am trying to thin out my collection of various pop culture related figurines. Some of my figures were still in the original packaging. We still have some items that we could not sell in our truck. Sadly, we did not make a lot of sales. We only sold about 30 items. But overall, I had a nice day. We saw my adorable baby cousin Penny who was filled with smiles and laughter. We also had lunch there. Shish kebab was served. It was decent. I am very proud of my self for something though. I helped a little lost boy who was crying find his mom and were reunited! It is important to help others in times of need and important to give to the community.
